Wood floors must be clean of dirt and other chemicals before application of Bona Craft Oil. Floors do not necessarily need to be sanded back to bare wood, depending on their previous treatment. No primer is needed prior to applying Bona Craft Oil.
Applying to Varnished Floors:
When applying to previously-varnished wood floors, floors must be sanded back to bare wood before applying Bona Craft Oil.
Applying to Previously Oiled Floors:
Floors treated with oil can be buffed and re-oiled, without needing to sand back to bare wood before applying the Bona Craft Oil.
It is vital to follow the manufacturer's application instructions on the container to ensure effective use of the product.
After the Bona Craft Oil has cured (fully dried), it can be overcoated with Bona Traffic HD - but it is not necessary to use a varnish on top of oil. If Bona Traffic HD is applied, the oil-treated floor must be buffed beforehand.
If your wood floor has not been overcoated with a varnish, it should be regularly cleaned using the Bona Oiled Floor Cleaning System - including Bona Oiled Floor Spray Mop and Bona Oil Soap. Domestic cleaners should be avoided to prevent interference with the Bona Craft Oil chemical composition.
For oiled floors overcoated with varnish, the aftercare instructions for the chosen varnish should be followed.
